Umer Piracha

Umer Piracha is a New York-based vocalist and composer deeply influenced by Sufi devotional music, which he studies classically under masters from heritage Qawwali families. He blends his rich Sufi vocal heritage with global musical traditions like West African guitar, Arabic maqam, and raga jazz fusion, creating music that is both deeply rooted in tradition and refreshingly contemporary. Projects: Resonance of Grace: A meditative sound healing journey recorded live at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco in 2023 and 2024. This project offers unique sound healing motifs crafted from a blend of ancient spiritual chants and Sufi vocal practice with modern therapeutic techniques. It explores the intersections of mysticism, altered states of consciousness, and our connection to the natural world. Hidden Spore: An experimental electronic music project unveiling nature's hidden symphonies. Integrating natural recordings from plants and fungi with percussive electronic elements and evocative vocals, Hidden Spore merges art, philosophy, technology, sci-fi, nature, and human experience. Falsa: A Brooklyn-based ensemble reinterpreting 14th-century Sufi music with contemporary jazz and world music influences.
