Where the data comes from

MID-8 is an independent index. Everything here is compiled from public sources — no paid databases, no walled gardens. Here's exactly where it comes from, how fresh it is, and what to do if something about you is wrong.

Our sources

  • Resident Advisor — event lineups, venues, and the DJ names that seed the whole index
  • SoundCloud — artists' own tracks, and the fan comments we read for real ratings
  • Wikidata — cross-referenced links (Spotify, Discogs, Bandcamp), country, and images
  • MusicBrainz — verified artist links and genre tags
  • Discogs — genres, styles, and release history
  • OpenStreetMap — venue locations for the map
  • YouTube — artists' public video uploads and their view counts
  • Pexels & venue sites — city and venue photography

Artist and venue photos and music players are embedded from these third parties; all rights remain with their respective owners.

How fresh it is

Events and lineups refresh regularly, and an enrichment pipeline runs continuously to deepen profiles — resolving music links, genres, locations, images, and ratings from real fan sentiment. Every enriched field records where it came from, so anything here can be traced back to its source.

We're honest about the gaps

The index is large and still filling in. Not every profile is complete yet — some are just a name and a city while we track down their music and history. We'd rather show you a real, thin profile than invent a fake full one. Browse defaults to complete profiles so you lead with the pages that have real substance, and you can switch to “show all” any time.

Ratings are real

When a DJ has a ★ rating, it isn't made up — it's computed from the sentiment of real fan comments on their music, and we show the best of those comments in the artist's own audience's words, with the source marked. If there isn't enough signal to rate someone honestly, we simply don't show a rating.

Is this you? Corrections & removal

If you're a DJ, artist, venue, or rights-holder and something here is wrong — or you want your public profile or a photo removed — just tell us and we'll fix or remove it promptly. The full process is in our Privacy Policy, or email support@mid-8.com.
